Democracy: When Journalists are not Killed
Democracy to me is when journalists are not killed, threatened, harassed, and intimidated by those they write critically about; when the culture of impunity does not exist because the state fulfills its human rights obligations and democratic institutions work well; when journalists are treated fairly and paid just wages by their employers; when access to information is recognized as a basic human right and not the privilege of a few.  (Red Batario)
